People with hearing loss
are at the heart of everything we do

Together we can create a world where more people with hearing loss successfully adapt to a life with hearing aids and feel more involved, connected and in control.

Features explained

Audiology

Inspired by nature, we look for ways to emulate the way the normal ear works. Because hearing is a process that occurs in the brain, we strive to provide sound that leverages this process. As a result, your clients get a full, rich hearing experience like no other.

The unique way that ReSound uses directional technology to ensure benefits in real-life situations is a good example of this strategy. All Access Directionality ensures that the brain has the right information to take advantage of an improved signal-to-noise ratio without cutting off access to surrounding sounds. This means that users can focus on the sounds they want to hear, but still monitor their environment. M&RIE (Microphone & Receiver-In-Ear) creates an even more natural hearing experience by using the pinna to collect sound.

Detailed explanations of Beltone features

Role

The Curvilinear Rapid sound processor models auditory frequency resolution by spacing the highly overlapping bands more closely at lower frequencies and further apart at higher frequencies.

User Benefit

The hearing instrument mimics the human ear while processing sound, resulting in a more natural sound quality.

Role

Continuously monitors the sound environment to automatically select the most appropriate directional setting in each hearing aid.

User Benefit

Users have the best possible speech understanding without any disorientation, because they can choose what is important for them to hear, while still hearing sounds around them. It delivers sound from the two ears in a way that allows the user’s brain to sort and focus on the sounds they want to hear

Role

Uses the individual’s own unique ear to collect sound the way nature intended for the best spatial perception and sound quality. It places a third microphone inside the ear canal as a combined part of the receiver, besides having both traditional microphones.

User Benefit

Gives users better spatial perception which allows them to simultaneously receive information and make decisions on what they want to listen to – making every conversation enjoyable. Also, by placing the microphone in the ear, the microphone is protected from wind noise, which results in a better outdoor listening experience.

Role

With a combination of pinna restoration, binaural compression and a dynamic optimization of directionality settings, the hearing aids continuously exchange data to select the best directional response for any listening environment while improving localization of environmental sounds

User Benefit

A vivid hearing experience your patient can control, with a natural awareness of surroundings, speech, and sounds.

Role

Audio streaming between the right and left hearing aids enables more effective directionality in very noisy situations.

User Benefit

The best 1:1 hearing experience even in the toughest of environments.

Role

Continuous ear-to-ear exchange of data about the environment optimizes polar patterns and microphone settings in any listening situation.

User Benefit

Providing the brain with the right information from both ears lets clients effortlessly follow conversations and shift attention naturally.

Role

CrossLink Directionality enables the hearing instruments to dynamically adjust microphone settings and choose the optimal directional pattern to suit any environment.

User Benefit

Users are provided with the information they need to instinctively react and tune in to the sound they are interested in.

Role

Spatial Directionality provides the listener with the benefits of both omnidirectional and directional modes simultaneously. The omnidirectional pattern is applied to one ear, the “monitor ear” and the fixed directional pattern is selected for the other ear, the “focus ear.”

User Benefit

More environmental sound awareness and improved speech understanding. No need for manual or automatic switching between different directional programs.

Role

Speech Spotter Pro uses knowledge about directional preferences along with acoustic analysis of the listening environment to control whether the hearing aid processes sound in an omnidirectional or directional mode, using slow and comfortable transitions.

User Benefit

Speech Spotter Pro results in improved speech understanding in different situations and optimal sound quality in a comfortable way.

Role

Adaptive Directionality with Smart Beam Steering automatically adjusts the directional beam width (Wide, Medium, Narrow) based on the relative levels of inputs to the front and rear microphones. With Smart Beam adaptive directionality, you set the beam width to either Wide, Medium or Narrow

User Benefit

Directional patterns are dynamically changed based on the noise in the environment to reduce unwanted noise from behind the hearing aid user. Smart Beam adjusts the directional beam in front of the user to Wide, Medium or Narrow, either automatically or as a set option in the fitting software.

Role

Band-split directionality processes low frequency sounds in an omnidirectional pattern, while high frequency sounds are treated as a directional response. The blending point or optimized frequency at which the processing changes between omnidirectional and directional is automatically calculated by Solus Max, but can be adjusted in each program.

User Benefit

Provides distortion-free sound quality, optimizing the mix of spatial awareness and speech understanding based on the individual hearing loss and instrument model.

Role

The hearing aids work together to analyze and accurately classify the listening environment, automatically adjusting gain and noise reduction settings across 7 different listening environments.

User Benefit

Hearing aid users can enjoy optimal audibility and listening comfort, even when moving through rapidly changing sound environments.

Role

Reduces amplification for very soft sounds which are not of interest to the user, such as very low level environmental sounds.

User Benefit

The soft background noises are not distracting, providing the best backdrop for pleasurable listening and moving through rapidly changing sound environments.

Role

The Sound Cleaner Pro system uses spectral subtraction, one of the most widely used methods for enhancement of speech in noise. Spectral subtraction precisely identifies speech and characterizes noise and then subtracts the short-term noise spectrum from the total signal.

User Benefit

Sound Cleaner Pro improves comfort in noisy listening situations without compromising speech understanding.

Role

Reduces amplification for sudden, brief noises.

User Benefit

Improves listening comfort and sound quality for impulse sounds like clanking silverware or jangling keys.

Role

Wind Noise Reduction detects and reduces wind noise without reducing gain for other sounds.

User Benefit

The hearing aid user has a very natural sounding experience, with soft wind noise in the background and preserved audibility for other sounds in the environment.

Role

Feedback Eraser analyses and models the incoming sound and uses this information to prevent the feedback cancellation filters from attacking desired sounds, without creating disturbing sound quality artefacts, resulting in up to 15 dB of extra gain available.

User Benefit

Exceptional, full and clear sound without the unwanted and unnatural feedback, which can occur from amplification or digital sound processing, even during phone calls and while listening to music.

Role

AFX Music Mode analyses the sound input over a longer period of time than any other Feedback Eraser setting, resulting in better accuracy in distinguishing true feedback from other tonal input sounds.

User Benefit

AFX Music Mode gives a clearer, richer, distortion-free music experience while still preventing feedback.

Role

Synchronized Satisfy gradually applies gain over a chosen period of time to reach final target fittings. The 2.4 GHz wireless connection ensures that the adaptation process is coordinated between the client’s two hearing instruments.

User Benefit

Allows the user to gradually and comfortably adjust to the new hearing instruments.

Role

High-frequency sounds that are not audible due to high-frequency losses or cochlear dead regions are compressed into a smaller area of the sound spectrum where these sounds can be more easily heard.

User Benefit

Improves the audibility of speech cues that would otherwise have been lost, while maintaining the best sound quality possible.

Role

Built-in Tinnitus Breaker Pro, which consists of either fully flexible modulated white noise or the option of several water-inspired Nature Sounds, helps manage a client’s tinnitus.

User Benefit

Helps break the ‘vicious cycle’ and win some relief from tinnitus by diverting attention away from tinnitus. It can be used as a component of sound therapy or simply as a masker to temporarily lessen the perception of the tinnitus.

Role

The AutoPhone function detects when the user holds a phone to their ear, while Asymmetrical Phone Handling then uses wireless communication to adjust settings in both instruments. On the phone ear, the user will experience vocal quality and clarity, while on the opposite ear, the volume will decrease automatically, without blocking out other sounds.

User Benefit

Gives hearing aid users easier and more comfortable phone use so they can still fully focus on their phone conversations and still be aware of what’s going on around them.
